Spring isn’t just for tidying up inside your home—your outdoor spaces deserve some love, too! Here are seven things you can spring clean outside to get your yard and garden in tip-top shape:
1. Lawn Care Plan
Rake up any leaves, twigs, and debris from the winter months. Give your grass a quick trim to start off fresh for the new season.
2. Garden Prep
If you have a garden, be sure to clear out old plants, trim back dead materials, and remove weeds from garden beds. Add a new layer of topsoil to refresh your garden as you prepare for your next round of fruits, veggies, and herbs. If you haven’t already, this would also be a great time to space-plan your garden and see what new flowers, food, and herbs you want to try out.
2. Windows & Screens
It’s time to dust off the winter haze and let in the spring sunlight. While wiping down your windows, don’t forget to clean your screens and check for any holes that may need patching.
4. Outdoor Furniture
Take time to dust off your patio furniture. If you can, remove the cushions and rinse off the base of your furniture. Take time to wash off your cushions and leave them out in the sun to dry. As a bonus, check your patio furniture covers and see if they’re worn or need to be replaced.
5. Clean and Check on Your Mailbox
Winter can be hard on your mailbox, so take a moment to give it some TLC. Give your mailbox a quick hose down to wash off any of the debris or salt that may have been left from the winter months. Check if your mailbox is wobbling or leaning and if any mailbox accessories like flags or house numbers should be updated or replaced. If you need a mailbox replacement altogether, you can stop by your local hardware store to pick up a new mailbox for your home. Bonus: you can get some inspiration for your garden while you are there!
6. Grill & Outdoor Appliances
Spring brings longer days and more opportunities to fire up the grill! If you haven’t used your grill in a while, set aside time to give it a deep clean and re-season it for the spring and summer months! Don’t forget to check your fuel levels to start this season with a full tank of propane or a fresh bag of coal/woodchips.
7. Outdoor Lights
Warmer weather means more evenings outdoors. Check your outdoor lighting for anything that needs to be wiped down or if you need to replace any bulbs. You might even consider updating to more energy-efficient options that can save you big time in the long run.
Get these outdoor tasks done, and your home will be ready for all the sunshine spring has to offer!
